    5 year wait…..totally worth it.

If you’re a fan of the BMS series, then you will without a doubt have a
blast watching Rise to Thadland. I felt a bit skeptical at first that
the film will fall short from it’s original feel, but boy was I wrong!
I felt ecstatic to see the producers still keeping the original
uncensored comedic feel that we all know and love from the series! In
addition I was glad to see most of the side characters (Donny, Harmon,
Larry, etc) getting a respectable amount of well deserved screen time.
We were also introduced to several new characters which made for a
    refreshing experience.

I am truly grateful that the cast came back to create this film. This
movie is perfect to watch if you’re in college! Overall, Rise to
Thadland far exceeded my expectations for a comedy, and as much as I
would love for them to continue the series…there is no better ending
to the BMS franchise than this film. Thank you.

Does for the Series what Serenity did for Firefly…

…. in that it gives closure on an awesome TV show in a more
entertaining than expected fashion. Fans will love it!

Granted it’s not all exactly the same. Different Goathouse, not all the
cast is there (but more than I expected really) and it’s just not the
same without Rev Theory, but other than that….

DUDE! This is what fans have been waiting for!!! Thad was only a
supporting character on the show at first and like Urkel on steroids
(or rabies) he immediately became the star of the show and thus the
center of the movie. But really Thad is BMS! And his story is our
    story. Only with more sloots.

The trailer only covers like the first half hour of the movie so there
is much more to see I promise. We do see what has become of the other
characters… Larry for instance. Radon and even Craig Shilo make an
appearance. Coach has an interesting little plot line that is pulled
from the headlines. Donnie has an arc of sorts… Sammy and Mary Jo are
there and I dare say even Alex gets a sort of closure. But remember…
This all takes place before the start of the season so there is plenty
of room to add future BMS adventures!

It’s not perfect but it’s better than we could’ve hoped for, waaaaay
more graphic than Spike would allow (language, full frontal sloots) and
drug use galore!!! If you get past the party scenes the story picks up
a bit more and there are even a couple of their trademark film spoofs.
Alan Ritchson has made a name for himself doing a variety of film roles
but will always be known as Thad Castle. He’s a producer on this piece
and hat’s off to him and the whole team who kept the dream alive and
made this awesome film. Watching the behind the scenes stuff on YouTube
really makes one realize how limited they were filming; I’m glad they
    pulled it off. Kudos.

THADLAND is a must see for any true BMS fan and gives the characters
and this world the over-the-top; egotistical; insane yet cathartic send
off that the show never could. God Bless America and God Bless Blue
    Mountain State!

”Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland” Review!

Give me a hell, give me a yeah, hell yeah! Because Blue Mountain State
    is back…sort of.

While it’s not season 4, it’s something better: a film adaptation of
the television show. In the past we have seen shows come back as films
with the same talent in front and behind the camera, such as Entourage
(and Sex in the City and Veronica Mars, but I haven’t seen their shows
or their movies). But to put it in simple terms, this is a worthwhile
wait to see Moran, Sammie, Thad and the gang back.

The story is pretty simple. Alex Moran is entering his senior year at
Blue Mountain State and what seems to be the year in which he’ll
control the legendary Goat House. But the new school dean has another
idea: selling the goat house so that the football team will concentrate
on the field. So in order to save the Goat House, Moran will have to
ask the help of an old friend Thad Castle, former BMS football player
and captain as well as the number one draft in the NFL. Thad agrees
that he will buy the Goat House but on one condition: they have to
throw Thad’s dream party, including an amusement park known as
    Thadland.

Pretty easy to see where it’s going right? Nope

    What I liked:

This movie does what some TV shows turned movies failed to do, be a
good movie. Look, we don’t see Blue Mountain State for it’s artistic
value or it’s compelling drama, we see it for the boobs, drugs, and
alcohol as well as it’s hilarious moments.

Unlike most movies based on shows, this movie raises the stakes for the
characters and does stuff that you couldn’t pull of on Spike. There is
something to lose in the film, the Goat House; something that wasn’t in
    a film like Entourage.

Also, like I said above, this movie is hilarious. I don’t want to give
away any specific moments but there are tons of gut-busting scenes in
this movie. There is one sex scene in this movie (out of many) that is
so hilarious, that’s worth the price of admission (though it was
released on digital, so worth buying on your computer?).

Another great thing about the movie is the cast, everyone is still
hilarious and we get to see some of our old favorites such as Craig
Shilo and Radon Randell. And how can I talk about the cast without
talking about Alan Ritchson as Thad Castle. He’s probably the best
thing about this movie. He’s hilarious and it reminds you why you loved
the character in the first place. The character of Thad Castle will go
down in history as one of the funniest TV characters, right there with
Stewie Griffin, Sheldon Cooper, and Carlton Banks. Also, this movie is
so unpredictable. If anything, there is only one thing you might expect
but other than that, it is really a wild ride because you are not sure
what the hell is gonna happen at the end.

    What I disliked:

Though there’s not a lot to dislike, the main focus of this movie is
Alex Moran and Thad Castle, which is great and all but I would’ve liked
to see more of the character moments. Most of the cast appearances,
such as those of Harmon, Donnie, Larry, and Mary Jo, are satisfying
appearances. But those of Craig Shilo and Radon Randell are a little
underwhelming, especially Radon because he just seems to show up
without set up and it would’ve been interesting to see what the two
have been up to since we last saw them. But the biggest of
underwhelming characters is Sammie. Though he has lots of funny
moments, he seems to be demoted to an over-the-top party animal, which
is something that he has was in the show (but in the show had more
    character).

Also, what prevented Blue Mountain State from being another shitty
American Pie direct- to-video movie was the football aspect of the
show, the moments like when the NCAA is doing a drug test or Thad going
soft on the football field, something that this movie doesn’t have and
it’s absence is duly noted. The film didn’t need a football-centered
plot, but are we really going to get only one scene of them on the
    field?

    Final Verdict:

To put it simply, it’s hilarious and it’s a worthy successor of the
television show. To many it would be seen an awesome party movie, but
it shows the Blue Mountain State has stuff to offer still. This isn’t
the ending of the BMS franchise, it’s a brand new beginning (at least I
hope), where it can be explored through another season or movie. Also
this movie isn’t for those who dislike party movies, but why would you
see it then? Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland reminds me of
why I fell in love with the show in the first place and why I wished my
college was like this. Old fans will love this film, newbies will enjoy
it. For newbies, I’d recommend binge-watching the show on Netflix and
    then watch this.

    Overall Score: B+ (or 7.5/10)

This Will be the Worst of 2016

This never seemed possible, but The Rise of Thadland is an even worse
comedy than The Hangover Part II. It is raunchy only for the sake of
trying to be funny, it is disgusting only for the sake of attempting to
create shock humor, and there just simply isn’t the energy in this
movie which the television show had to offer.

The premise is so straightforward and simple that it gets to be a bore
right after Thadland actually becomes a thing. Moran needs to win over
Thad for him to buy the goathouse so it doesn’t get taken away for
them. Thad’s request is simple: throw an awesome party for him and
he’ll put up enough money to win the goathouse over in the auction. The
bulk of the movie is this party Moran agrees to throw, making most of
the humor in the movie drug-related. We watch people trip out on drugs
for the comedy, which ends up being a bore and not funny at all. Also,
it is clear which part of the movie has an extended nc-17 clip in the
bonus features, and it is too disgusting to imagine how the nc-17
version would have looked and not funny at all.

Of course Alan Ritchson as Thad shines as the star of the movie, though
he is not the protagonist. He delivers the same goof ball we are all
fond of in the television show, but the script just didn’t allow him to
shine AS MUCH as he did in the television series. The best moments
focus around him, but sadly there are less than a handful of these
    moments.

There is no way that anything released in 2016 will be as terrible as
    this film.

    1.0/4.0

    Non stop laughs

Listen, I haven’t reviewed a movie on here before but I personally
loved the humor in this movie so much that I don’t feel its fair a few
stuck up people are giving this bad reviews. It’s obviously a movie (or
TV series) that doesn’t take itself seriously and with that in mind I
found it to be the funniest comedy I’ve seen that I can remember. I’m
also not generally a football fan, not really my thing but when you
watch this movie it doesn’t seem like a football movie, its packed with
silliness, foul language, nudity, brashness and some very
straightforward but well placed and unexpected humor. I can see some
people thinking the style of humor in this movie is tasteless or
immature but to me personally it was speaking to me. It also has an
underlying parody aspect of generally overpaid athletes where the main
character Thad is bigger than life which I found to be a nicely written
character. Overall 10/10 I’m glad I discovered this I’m watching the TV
    series now.

  • MateusNFebruary 17, 2016Reply

The movie has some really great scenes and others really funny, but overall, it’s mixed.

The intro of the movie is great and starts really strong, but as soon
as it’s over the ‘new’ BMS is shown. Different goat house and different
uniforms for both the football players and cheerleaders. Something that
is definitely going to disappoint the fans and hardcore viewers, right
    in the beginning.

The first forty minutes of the movie will feel different but will stay
true to the series. At this point is arguably the ‘peak’ of the movie,
the conversation between Donnie and Mary Jo. This is truly the only
part something new comes up and the only one with little taste of
character development, for the whole movie (One of the biggest issues).

Then, there’s a hilarious scene with Alex Moran and Mary Jo, but
afterwards is mostly comedy for the sake of comedy. Characters go off
character and the movie stop feeling like the series and it becomes
almost boring, but it’s still enjoyable.

The movie certainty doesn’t live to series expectations, the jokes
aren’t as funny and the movie fails to capture the immersion of the
series. The movie is not bad, if you enjoyed the series this is a must
watch, but don’t expect any closure or story follow up from the series
(Thad’s NFL story line is just too flat, little is shown and it doesn’t
    work well).

This movie is pretty much just a reunion with a big party, and that is
very well delivered. If you watch BMS for the parties, boobies and
drugs, this movie will be perfect for you.

    This movie was fun.

I was in this movie as a Police Officer and I had a great time. I hope
every one gets the chance to see this. It’s definitely a funny movie.
Adam Sanderish funny. The director actually would stop filming to get an
opinion of a Background Actor. You could feel his passion for his work.
This is rare.I was a little disappointed that it went straight to
online rentals. But, all in all it was worth the wait.I really hope to
work with this crew again. I think it was one of the best, most
friendly sets I’ve been on.Also, the main cast was very kind and
willing to share advice.Or,a joke.I was actually thrilled while I was
    watching it.

    Funny, but disappointingly senseless

First of all, I’ve seen the series about 10 times, I’m a huge fan of
BMS. Therefore I was very excited about the movie.

First of all, I’m not saying that the movie is not funny. It IS funny
but there are some scenes that makes me want to thank Spike TV that
they didn’t let all the weird ideas of Romanski & Eric Falconer appear
on the TV screen (Sammy & the Goat).

My problem is, that we didn’t get what we were promised in the
kickstarter video. We didn’t see Thad graduate and go into the NFL. We
didn’t see Alex graduate and ”fulfill his destiny on and off the field”
Radon’s and Shilo’s ”comeback” was like the most disappointing thing in
the movie Plus, they’ve said that they would shoot the film on the same
locations, where they had the series. I understand why they had to make
a new goat house, but it just doesn’t feel the same.

As they’ve said, if the movie will be a success, the series might come
back. I hope if they do a season 4, they will do a different story, or
just make some twist to make this movie forgotten (maybe that it all
    was just Thad’s dream)

There is a reason this went Straight to Netflix — it STINKS!

Remember when someone your Dad’s age tried to do things to be ”cool”.It
did not work then and it does not work now.

Nothing is sadder than a group of men in their early THIRTIES who are
pretending to be College Students… and immature frat boy type college
    students at that.

Alan Ritchson is at least twelve years too old to be playing this role!
He has pretty much aged out of the roles he had played so far in his
career. If he is to have a future in the film business, he needs to
start playing roles which are remotely similar to his chronological
    age.

This movie appears to have been made by a bunch of old geezers who are
throwing in every counterculture thing they can think of — all in an
effort to make this film appealing to ”the young folk”. Most college
students are not stupid enough to believe that this is ”entertainment”.

Especially offensive is the way in which Women are treated in this
film. There is one particularly annoying character who is such an
incredibly ”Dumb Blonde”, she will offend other blondes of sub average
intelligence. Come on guys, this is not funny, it is just stupid and
    not in a good way.

While there are some viewers who will find this film enjoyable . For
those of us who do NOT live in our Mother’s basement, it is a total
    waste of time.

    horrible flick

This movie is horrible… BMS the series was good, but this movie.. is
TERRIBLE!! From start to finish this movie was underwhelming, the
premises is horrible, the idea’s and jokes are over used. This movie
made me want to stop and watch something else more often then I thought
possible. The original Blue Mountain State Show I thought was funny as
hell, this turned every joke into the lowest possible idea of humor and
mostly just dug deep into the depths of stupid… This Movie sucked on
every single level I have ever conceived for a movie to suck on… if I
was forced at gun point to watch this movie again…. I would SINCERELY
    consider the bullet…

  • panthers-52May 9, 2016Reply

    Awesome!

This movie was exactly what I was hoping for! If you are an avid fan of
the show, you’ll definitely love this movie. There is almost no plot
and little to no football but who was watching the show for that part
    specifically? It was just a bunch of alcohol, drugs, girls, and sex;
but that is kind of what to expect from a Blue Mountain State movie.
Had a few laughs to die for throughout the movie and found myself
genuinely satisfied at the end. So just to sum things up, please don’t
watch this movie in hopes of seeing a majestic art piece of a film
because it’s always raining cocaine in Thadland! 10/10 for any fan of
    the show.
